The Rock Keeps a secrets - Westminster Abbey (Govinda hela)

Govinda Hela – The Westminster Abbey

This natural rock fortress, almost similar to the Sigiriya Rock, said to be sheltered to a Duke called Buvanekabahu, who escaped from the Polonnaruwa Kindom. Polonnaruwa Kindom was collapsed in 1225 AD. as a result of the South – Indian invasions occurred continuously. Consequently, rulers of polonnaruwa shifted towards the North-Western region of the island seeking protection. But, some of the higher rankers withdrew towards other areas which they could find protection as they wish. Thus Buvenekebahu decided to choose this rock fortress for his protection and established his citadel on the summit of the rock and administrated the Southern region for twenty five years. A substantial area of the summit is covered with the ruins and the moonstone laid is distinctive among the others.
This rock named by the British Rules as The Westminster Abbey considering the external appearance of the rock. The rock is located near the 16th km post and the Buvanekabahu temple, on Siyambalanduwa – Ampara Road.

Roses Blooming in Bandarawela, Sri Lanka.

Roses are the queens of the garden. Flowering rose bushes have been cultivated for thousands of years, and the rose is the most popular flower in the world. rose garden in ambagasdowa

Just how popular are roses? In 1985, The American Rose Society successfully lobbied to have the rose declared the national flower of the United States of America. President Ronald Reagan signed the proclamation certifying the rose as the national flower in a ceremony at the White House Rose Garden in 1986.

It’s no surprise, then, that every year millions of rose bushes are planted in American gardens and throughout the gardening world. Rumors might persist that roses are fussy and difficult to grow, but rose experts tell us otherwise.

“All plants need the right growing conditions to thrive, and roses are no different,” says Chris VanCleave, a nationally known rose expert and self-proclaimed Redneck Rosarian (RedneckRosarian.com). “If you provide the right conditions and the right care, rose bushes will thrive in virtually any garden.”

Here are five tips for growing healthy roses. Follow these tips and you can enjoy these beautiful flowering shrubs in your own garden year after year.  (source http://dailynews.lk/2016/07/18/features/87752)

This is really popular among the local and foreign tourists and most of the them are used to observe it from the tourist hotel “Grand Ella Motel”.

(Welcome to everyone’s favorite hill-country village, and the place to ease off the travel accelerator with a few leisurely days resting in your choice of some of the country’s best guesthouses. The views through Ella Gap are stunning, and on a clear night you can even spy the subtle glow of the Great Basses lighthouse on Sri Lanka’s south coast. Don’t be too laid-back though; definitely make time for easygoing walks through tea plantations to temples, waterfalls and viewpoints. After building up a hiking-inspired appetite, look forward to Sri Lanka’s best home-cooked food and a reviving cuppa.
In recent years, Ella's popularity has soared and the town's attractiveness has been somewhat compromised by some multi story concrete eyesores.) Source : http://www.lonelyplanet.com/sri-lanka/the-hill-country/ella/introduction
